The Nikon D7000

The Nikon D7000 is a 16.2 megapixel digital single-lens reflex camera (DSLR) model announced by Nikon on September 15, 2010. It is a new class of camera placed between the professional D300S and the prosumer level D90.[2][3][4][5] Rather than using Nikon's previous consumer-level two-digit (D40, D70s, D90, etc.) or prosumer/professional three-digit (D100, D200, D300, D300S, D700) DSLR model numbering schemes, it follows the company's new four-digit scheme introduced with the Nikon D3000 and Nikon D5000 consumer-level cameras in 2009.

The D7000 offers numerous professional-style features over the D90, such as magnesium alloy body construction, weather sealing, dedicated dial- and button-based controls for most common settings, a 2,016-segment color exposure meter, built-in timed interval exposure features, a large number of viewfinder focus points, dual memory card slots, and compatibility with older autofocus and manual-focus AI and AI-S Nikon F-mount lenses (including three-segment viewfinder manual focus indication). At introduction the only Nikon DSLR with higher sensor resolution than the D7000 was the top-of-the-line 24-megapixel Nikon D3X. Although it has a lower-resolution sensor and movie mode, the D300S offers several additional high-end features, including Compact Flash memory support, faster top shot-to-shot speeds, more viewfinder focus points, additional exposure bracketing settings, wired PC cord flash support, and a live-view virtual horizon.
